Rudy  has been drumming since age 11. He has performed throughout Latin America, the Eastern Caribbean, England, and now in Canada.  He was a percussionist at the University of Winnipeg Symphonic Ensemble for five seasons. His current and recent work includes:  the Winnipeg Pops Orchestra, the Assiniboia Concert Band, Paradize Band, African and Caribbean cultural ensembles, and Christian worship groups. He was also the instructor for the  Latin American percussion ensemble at the Colombian Alliance of Manitoba. Rudy brings extensive experience in a variety of musical and cultural settings. Antillean music ( Reggae, Calypso, Soca, Masquerades etc.), Latin American ( Merengue, Songo, Samba, Palos, and much more).

Specialization

His musical experience swings right across a wide spectrum of genres from Rock, Christian worship, Orchestral and much more. However, his main focus of both research and performance includes: Latin Jazz and the unknown folkloric rhythms of  the Caribbean  and their adaptation to modern Jazz fusion.

Folkloric and African drumming

This one style is called: Bélé, also spelled Bèlè or Bele, is a traditional folk dance and music form originating from Dominica and other French West Indian islands like Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Martinique, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. It's considered one of the oldest Creole dances and is deeply rooted in African fertility dance traditions. There are about 13 different styles of Bele dances.

In this particular example, Rudy  taught the drumming patterns and assisted in the coordination of the dance. This was showcased at the Caribbean Pavilion, Folklorama 2025, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Popular and orchestral

The Blue Brothers: here, I added a few extras rhythms to the mix, such as swing,  Afro-Cuban bembe and basic rock.

Popular and orchestral

This great song is called “St. Louis Blues” composed by W. C Handy. Here Rudy collaborated with the Winnipeg Pops Orchestra during the 2024 spring concert season. He  played Congas, Bongos and the Marching Machine.

Caribbean rhythms

This is a Reggae version of the well-known song "Killing Me Softly with His Song" composed by Charles Fox. He collaborated with the Winnipeg-based Reggae and Calypso band called ( Paradize Band) during the 2024 Winnipeg African-Caribbean Folklorama event.

Caribbean Masquerade/Egungun

This is a faster version of the snare pattern for a Caribbean folkloric dance.  This  particular art form is typical of Caribbean islands: St. Kitts and Nevis, the Dominican Republic, Montserrat, Bermuda, and other places. Some call it Gombey, others Masquerades, and others, Guloya.
